N.J. weather: Severe thunderstorm watch issued with heavy rain on the way - NJ.com

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued by the National Weather Service with up to 2 inches of rain and damaging winds expected to lash New Jersey on Wednesday night.

The watches are in effect for Bergen, Hunterdon, Mercer, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex and Warren counties until midnight Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service says strong thunderstorms that bring brief, heavy rain of 1 to 2 inches might cause flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas, especially since the ground is very saturated from last week’s flooding.

A flash flood watch runs until early Friday in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Somerset, Sussex Union, Passaic and Warren counties.

The remnants of Hurricane Ida last week dropped as much as 10 inches of rain on parts of the state and triggered major flooding across New Jersey. At least 27 people died of flood-related causes in the state.
