The remnants of Hurricane Ida hitting New Jersey with a dangerous combination of flash flooding, thunderstorms and the threat of tornadoes have already triggered severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of the state — with more likely as the storm unfolds.
Parts of Ocean County including Toms River and Jersey Shore towns stretching to Belmar in Monmouth County could see winds up to 60 mph, quarter-size hail and a potential tornado. A tornado warning, however, has not been issued.
A severe thunderstorm warning for Monmouth and Ocean extends until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. An earlier severe thunderstorm warning that included parts of Burlington County expired at 8:45 a.m. as the storm moved north.
UPDATE (9:20 a.m.): The severe thunderstorm warning for Monmouth and Ocean counties has been canceled.
The first bands of the storm are already hitting parts of the state, and more watches and warnings are expected. A warning indicates the threat of severe weather is imminent.
