In an update issued on the evening of Nov. 28, the US National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City NC is warning of the threat of severe weather that could include thunderstorms, damaging winds and coastal flooding after sunset on Sunday Nov. 29 through the afternoon on Monday Nov 30.
Among the possible hazards and impacts are:
Damaging Winds: Thunderstorm wind gusts in excess of 60 mph could damage trees and power lines, resulting in scattered power outages.
Isolated Tornadoes: An isolated tornado or two is possible, resulting in locally enhanced areas of damage.
Coastal Flooding: Strong southerly winds could result in coastal flooding, in particular the OBX soundside north of Buxton.
Heavy Rainfall: Total rainfall of 1-2” along and east of Highway 17 could lead to localized and urban flooding.
Marine Impacts: Gale conditions are possible over the coastal waters and Pamlico Sound. NW
