According to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, a 49-year-old woman was found deceased in a remote area near South Boulder Peak on November 23.
Family members had already been searching for the woman in the area when first responders were notified of the situation. The woman's vehicle had been found nearby, though she was not inside.
Upon their arrival, search and rescue teams scoured the area on foot and via an unmanned aircraft. The woman was located near South Boulder Peak on Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks property.
In order to locate the missing individual, a search and rescue team member navigated difficult and dangerous terrain after dark to reach the woman. She was reached just before midnight and confirmed to be deceased.
Recovery efforts may take several days and trail closures may be enacted during that time.
Multiple groups were involved in the search and rescue effort, including Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Boulder Emergency Squad, Front Range Rescue Dogs, and the Boulder County Sheriff's Office Victim Advocates.
Identification and information about the cause of death will be later released. Foul play is not suspected at this time.
