Windy conditions and low relative humidity are expected to fuel wildfires on Wednesday from Colorado’s San Juan Mountains to the Front Range.

CalWood and Lefthand Canyon fires
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday issued an evacuation order for Lyons Park Estates due to the CalWood fire “to allow residents time to safely evacuate and prevent any evacuations being needed in the middle of the night.”

Fire crews increased containment on the CalWood fire overnight Tuesday, which is now burning 9,915 acres, more than 15 square miles, in Boulder County.
The fire is 21% contained as of Wednesday morning, up from 17% on Tuesday, fire officials said in a morning update.
The Lefthand Canyon fire decreased slightly in size from Tuesday, and is now burning 460 acres, less than 1 square mile, with 4% containment.
On Wednesday, fire crews plan to work on the southeastern side of the CalWood fire, as the flames back down the hill toward Spruce Gulch, officials said. Resources will also be devoted to protecting structures in the Balarat area on the southwestern side of the fire, officials said, as well as making sure the fire stays south of the Colorado 7 highway.
Winds will be lighter in the morning but will increase in the afternoon, with gusts up to 30 mph along the ridge tops. A Red Flag warning is in effect for both fires areas from noon until 8 a.m. Thursday.
Cameron Peak fire
The Cameron Peak fire in Larimer County grew slightly overnight Tuesday, and is now burning 206,009 acres, nearly 322 square miles, with 52% containment, officials said in a Wednesday morning news release.
Fire crews expect another difficult day Wednesday, with high winds up to 50 mph during the day and gusts in the evening up to 60 mph, officials said. The winds, combined with low relative humidity, are expected to produce ripe fire conditions that could send a good deal of smoke into the air, fire officials said.
A Red Flag warning is in effect from noon until 8 a.m. Thursday.
Resources that were temporarily reassigned to fight the CalWood and Lefthand Canyon fires in Boulder County have returned to assist crews on the southern edge of the Cameron Peak fire, officials said.
East Troublesome fire
The East Troublesome fire near Hot Sulphur Springs in Grand County grew substantially Tuesday, and is now burning 19,086 acres, nearly 30 square miles, with 10% containment.
Crews expect another active fire day Wednesday, with dense smoke possible, officials said on Facebook.
Ice fire
The fire, which sparked Tuesday west of Silverton in San Juan County, grew to 508 acres with 15% containment, officials said on Inciweb.
Twenty-three hikers had to be rescued via helicopter on Monday after the fire broke out.
