Strong to severe storms will be possible across south Alabama on Wednesday.
A lot of rain will also be possible -- this time for the entire state -- and some areas could see up to 4 inches by Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
The most likely window for storms appears to be from Wednesday afternoon into early Thursday morning.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather for all of south Alabama for Wednesday.
A Level 2 risk means scattered severe storms will be possible.
The strongest storms could generate a tornado or two as well as winds strong enough to knock down trees and power lines.
Heavy rain will also be a possibility for all of Alabama, and forecasters will be on guard in case storms move repeatedly over the same areas and raise flooding concerns.
The risk for the higher rain totals may end up being in parts of north or central Alabama, but forecasters noted that could change.
Here is the rainfall outlook from the National Weather Service through noon on Thursday:
It will also be breezy across a good part of the state, according to the weather service, even in areas not expected to see stronger storms.
The weather service in Mobile will be watching two things: A warm front moving inland from the Gulf and a cold front approaching Alabama from the west.
Areas south of the warm front have the best chance of seeing stronger storms and tornadoes. Severe weather is not likely in areas north of that warm front.
The rain and storms are expected to clear out of Alabama on Thursday, and much colder weather is expected starting on Friday and through the weekend.
