Raleigh, N.C. — Sunday will be a Level 1 threat for severe weather for parts of North Carolina as remnants of Delta will move into the area.
Remnant rainfall from Delta will extend all the way into North Carolina on Sunday. This system will bring heavy rain that will spark flooding across the North Carolina mountains and severe storms will be possible by Sunday.
Areas south of Raleigh, such as Cumberland and Sampson counties, could be impacted, WRAL meteorologist Zach Maloch said.
Hurricane Delta made landfall in Louisiana around 7 p.m. on Friday night as a Cat. 2 storm. It has since been downgraded to a Tropical Storm.
Wind speeds of Tropical Storm Delta will continue to decrease, while the pressure of the storm will rise.
Some areas saw rain on Saturday. On Sunday afternoon, there is a possibility for severe storms especially across the Sandhills. That's the reason a Level 1 risk for severe storms is in place for about half of the state.
North Carolina's western counties have a flood watch in place for this weekend due to increased rainfall from Delta.
In the next 3 days, the mountains could see between 3 to 4 inches of rain.
A cold front is moving in on Tuesday and temps are going to cool down slightly again.
Our rain chances will return to zero on Wednesday, and Thursday is looking like the best day of the week. There's no chance of rain and the high is going to be a nice 75 degrees.
