Why settle for one scenic highway when you can have three?
That’s exactly what you get on the McKenzie Pass-Santiam Pass Scenic Byway, which crosses Oregon’s central Cascade Mountains twice on a loop that begins and ends in the town of Sisters.
On this week’s episode of Peak Northwest, we talk about all three highways that make up the scenic byway, and list some of the best natural attractions along the way. With waterfalls, hikes, mountain views and at least one historic roadside attraction, it’s safe to say this is one of the very best drives in Oregon.
Here are some highlights from this week’s show:
- U.S. 30 has some great outdoors options for all seasons/
- The McKenzie River runs through several beautiful hikes and attractions.
- What’s the deal with the Dee Wright Observatory?
- What you can still do when some of the scenic byway is closed for winter.
