After a brief interlude of warmer, milder weather, cold temperatures and threats of thunderstorms return to Dallas-Fort Worth overnight Wednesday.
Hail and gusty winds are possible Wednesday evening and overnight as a cold front moves through Central Texas bringing a chance for thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.
The most severe storms are anticipated to hit DFW between 8 p.m. and 12 a.m., but showers could start as early as sunset, KXAS-TV (NBC5) meteorologist Keisha Burns said.
The Weather Service said the biggest threats are damaging winds up to 65 mph, 1-inch hail and possibility tornados. While a low-tornado risk is posed for metroplex, areas north of Interstate 20, near the Red River, have the greatest outlook for sizable hail and tornados.
The Weather Service urged people to have multiple ways to receive alerts — such as via apps, radio or television — ahead of tonight’s storms.
A cold front will move through late Wednesday, bringing chances for showers and storms. The severe threat is low, but some storms can become strong. Main concerns are 50-60 mph winds and 1 inch hail. Make sure to have multiple ways to receive warnings! #dfwwx #txwx #ctxwx pic.twitter.com/qGxyUutvic

“Be sure to be weather-aware,” Burns said.
The line of storms should tapper off and move east by sunrise Thursday, ushering in cooler temperatures with lows in the mid 40s. Veterans Day should be dry and chilly, and the upcoming weekend looks sunny and cool.
“All is quiet and clear as we head into Veterans Day Thursday,” Burns said.
Here’s what NBC5′s latest forecast says:
Today: 74, partly to mostly cloudy and breezy. An increasing chance of showers or thunderstorms after sunset.
Tonight: 51, a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be strong to severe.
Thursday (Veterans Day): 68/45, breezy and cooler with a good deal of sun.
Friday: 66/45, sunny, breezy and cool.
Saturday: 65/39, sunny and cool.
